There are five billion people without access to safe surgery. Access to safe, affordable surgical equipment is a major barrier to care, and that needs to change! With the cost of healthcare rising around the world, there has never been a better time to think outside the box and design radically affordable medical devices.
We founded Arbutus Medical in 2014, launched our flagship DrillCover platform in 2016, and since then we have shipped enough product to enable orthopaedic surgery for over 45,000 patients, in over 30 countries. We have our expanded our lines of business to serve value-conscious hospitals and NGOs around the world, including military field medicine teams helping save lives and limbs in conflict zones. Animals also require access to safe surgery, and our surgical products have enabled veterinarians to treat more than 27,000 animal patients. We’re working towards 2 million patients by 2024, and aim to reach over half of those in low- and middle-income countries.

Arbutus Medical is a licensed ISO13485 medical device manufacturer, with Health Canada and FDA listings for three product systems and over 50 sellable products.

As a growth-minded Marketing Manager, you will develop marketing strategies that capture the attention of our target customer segments and supercharges our channel partners. You will craft key messages and utilize the more effective communication channels to communicate our products’ value to customers along multiple verticals (global health, veterinary, and military medicine). We are a small entrepreneurial team, and this role will be broad and dynamic.
You will be laser-focused on generating leads to help us acquire new customers – and will start specifically with finding veterinarians in the USA who need & love our products. You can expect to shift your emphasis within the growth funnel over time; you’ll also broaden your scope to target customers in global health and military medicine, as well as new geographies as the company continues to grow.
In this role, you will:
Develop and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns to generate leads for our sales team and channel partners
Manage a tradeshow and field marketing schedule, and organize all aspects of their execution, attending some yourself throughout North America and Europe (up to one trip per month, average of 3 days per trip), engaging with customers and partners in person
Manage social media accounts, blog, and newsletters; manage content/content schedule across all platforms and generate some content yourself
Define the requirements for marketing videos and other collateral in collaboration with our sales team and channel partners, then manage the production of those assets, liaising with vendors
Gather feedback from customers and channel partners, and use the data to make recommendations that help refine product roadmap and messaging
Support sales team with key presentations and proposals
Work within a marketing budget, conduct ROI analyses, prepare reports, and make suggestions that inform strategy
Desired skills and qualifications
Our ideal Marketing Manager has:
5-7+ years experience executing marketing strategies
Strong written and oral storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify concepts into simple message (i.e. you love generating content!)
Excellent project management skills, attention to detail, and systems for staying organized; ideally, experience working with/in marketing/creative agencies
Experience (and maybe an obsession) with customer segmentation, understanding pain points, and perfectly crafted messaging
An ability to ‘keep it simple’, stay focused on your big goals and juggle multiple priorities
Entrepreneurial spirit and insatiable appetite to learn
A team-first mindset; kind, caring and empathetic
A belief in triple-bottom line business practices

Additional desired qualifications

Creative skills, such as photography/video editing/graphic design
Experience with international channel partners in a wide range of roles, building go-to-market programs with channel partners utilizing effective co-spend models, and rolling out effective trade show efforts
Experience executing new product launches
Experience building a social purpose brand
Fluency in additional languages
An understanding of the orthopaedic surgery and veterinary medicine lexicon, which will help you translate technical features into clinical benefits
Background in medical devices, clinical research, or a related field
Experience marketing hardware/physical products, and working with distributors/channel partners
Data visualization software skills
Experience with analytics (you are a “numbers” person)
Experience in PR
Experience in a growth-stage startup
Compensation and benefits
You will be paid an annual salary between C$65,000 - 80,000 plus employee stock options. This is a full-time position based on a 40-hour work week. We also offer benefits and professional development funding after 6 months.
